Police Machine resist oppression on Debut day

The day of Men’s Local Debuts was set on Match Day 4 with Police Machine facing Niger Flickers, El Sharkia matching boots with Eastern Company and Trustees keeping up with local champions GRA men. Police Machine after 3 defeats, grabbed their first win to announce dominance in their local debut. The team outweighed Niger Flickers whose performance in this year’s competition proved outstanding in their last 3 games Michael Agbaegbu in the 33rd minute gave Police Machine the early lead scoring from another worked out counter attack. The defence of Niger Flickers couldn’t resist this attack as Agbaegbu dribbled pass 3 defence and landed the final touch into the post of the Flickers. Niger Flickers most promising player – Victor Kish levelled the score from a PC in the 54th putting pressure on Police Machine. Police Machine’s Michael Agbaegbu again, smashed Niger Flickers in the 59th minute after goalkeeper Abdulkadir blocked an earlier shot from him. Police Machine ended their consecutive streak of losses beating Niger Flickers 2-1. The second debut of the day was between continental champions – El Sharkia and defending champions Eastern Company. The Egyptian debut was a match of sorrow for defending champions after they conceded heavily to El Sharkia. Ahmed Ahmed Aly in the 3rd minute placed El Sharkia ahead of the game ending the first quarter in their favour. Gobran Mohammed shot at goal in the 24th minutes from a well-organized counter attack by Ahmed Ahmed Aly. Ibrahim Sameer added his name to the score sheet from a PC, placing it at the top left corner of Eastern Company’s post. Eastern Company joined the party of goals just before the end of the 3rd quarter. Aboutaleb Mahmoud converted his 4th PC to a goal putting smiles on the bench of Eastern Company. The smiles short-lived as Edres Al Sayed striked hard to the top left corner of Eastern Company’s post increasing their tally to 4. Aboutaleb Mahmoud doubled his name on the scoresheet from a penalty stroke in the 49th minute but wasn’t to pick a point. Defending champions – Eastern Company lost their first game to continental champions – El Sharkia by 4 goals to 2. Ghana’s debut increased the numbers at the Theodosia Okoh Hockey pitch as local champions GRA Men held Runners Up to 2 goal draw. GRA showed sportsmanship taking control of the game in the first 2 quarters. Prince Ashrifie and Damalie Luke in the 14th and 25th minute, secured GRA’s full control of the first two quarters cementing their dominance over Trustees. The jubilation ended for GRA in the 40th and 56th minute after Trustees talismen, Johnny Botsio and Osumanu Mohammed levelled the score. ACCC 2017: Telkom Kenya silences host nation

Defending champions Telkom Kenya had the better of GRA in their game on match day 4 with Ghana Police and Kada Queens getting vital wins over their opponents. In the first game of the day, Ghana Police ladies thrashed Yobe Dessert Queens 4-0. Police who were so much in need of this win to catch up with GRA and Telkom started the game pressing hard and counter attacking. Amoako Cecilia opened the scoring as early as the 7th minute. Sarfoa Martha added her name to the score-sheet in the 29th minute to put Police 2-0 up before the end of the second quarter. Cecilia grabbed her brace in the 50th minute before Nafisatu Umaru increased her tally to 7 goals in the tournament four minutes to time. The final whistle went and Ghana police grabbed their third win in 4 games. GRA lost grip of the first position after losing to Telkom in the second game. It was a game witnessed by many especially the Ghana Police team as a win for GRA would have put them in comfortable position. However, the story was different at the final blast of the whistle. The first three quarters saw both teams waste chances. Telkom who are yet to concede in this tournament displayed once again why they boast of the best defense. The teams were heading for a drawn game when Juma Netesa stepped up to convert a 57th minute penalty corner to send the entire stadium into total silence. The game ended with Telkom 1-0 winners. The win puts Telkom top of the table with 12 points with GRA second with 9 points. The final game in the ladies category came up with Strathmore facing Kada queens. Strathmore who had lost all three games, came into this game solely for a win. Florence Oghenerobor made that impossible as she put the Queens in-front five minutes into the game. The tally was doubled three minutes later courtesy a solo effort from Noredia Nwagboe before Alfa john made it 3-0 in the 22nd minute. Okumu Gilly pulled one back for Strathmore but it was not enough as Adagboyn Atua added the fourth in the 30th minute. The match ended with Kada Queens beating Strathmore 4-1. The win however, secures a bronze medal playoff match for Kada Queens while Strathmore, irrespective of the scoreline in their last game will settle for the 5th and 6th match. Source: isports360.com

Nigerian clubs stunned on match day 2

It was a bad match day yesterday for Nigerian clubs as both Kada Queens and Yobe desert were beaten in their respective matches. In the first match of the day, Nigerian champions Kada queens played host to Kenya league champions Telkom in a match touted by many as “a meeting of champions”. The match started with both teams in search of a win after respective derby wins. The first quarter saw both teams play defensive and very cautious. Maureen Arianda put Telkom Kenya in-front four minutes into the second quarter after bad defending from Kada Queens. Tournament joint top scorer, Lucy Wangechi increased the tally in the third quarter before Tracy Karanja made it 3-0 in the 56th minute with a wonderful penalty corner. Speaking after the game, head Coach of Kada Queens said, “We gave them open spaces in the second quarter and allowed them to run freely. We still love the way we play no matter what happens…we will work on our mistakes and come back the next game well prepared”. GRA ladies moved top of the league log after thrashing Yobe Dessert 8-0 in the second game. Narkuoh Vivian put GRA in-front as early as the 2nd minute before making it two in the 16th minute. Lydia Afriyie added her name to the score-sheet in the 39th minute. Berko Mavis increased the tally from a penalty corner before skipper Grant Moinica’s brace in the 48th and 51st minute made it 6-0. Elizabeth Opoku and Deborah Whyte rounded up the victory in the 54th and 60th minute. The final game was between Ghana Police ladies and Strathmore. After both teams losing on match day 2, this was an opportunity to redeem themselves. However, it was Strathmore who scored first from Okumu Gilly in the 7th minute. Ghana police responded quickly through Umaru Nafisatu two minutes later. The first quarter ended 1-1. Both teams came into the second quarter in search of a goal but that never happened as the defenders put up a good show. The goal came in the third quarter courtesy Martha Sarfoa to put police ladies ahead. Umaru Nafisatu got her sixth goal of the competition to move top of the scorers chart in the 48th minute. Cecilia Ofoi made it 4-1 in the 51st minute to send Ghana police 3rd on the log. Skipper of Ghana Police ladies spoke after the match; she said, “We are so grateful to God for this victory. We had to come back after that defeat to GRA and that is exactly what we did. We will fight hard till the end of this competition, and hopefully get the ultimate”. Source: isports360.com
